秋分の日

今日は国民の祝日の１つである"秋分の日"です。この祝日は祖先を敬い亡くなった人々を偲ぶために1948年に制定されました。仏教に関連した日本独特の風習に根ざし、多くの日本人がこの頃に墓参りをします。

一方、南半球では今日は春分の日に相当します。

この日は昼と夜の長さがほとんど同じになりますが、主に空気による太陽光の屈折や太陽の半径分の影響で厳密には同じになりません。実際は夜より昼の方が約14分長くなります。

Today is Autumnal Equinox, a national holiday called "Shubun no hi 秋分の日" in Japan. In 1948, the holiday was established for the Japanese to worship ancestors and recall the deceased. Many Japanese visit their ancestors' graves around that day, rooted in Japan's unique custom related to Buddhism.

In the southern hemisphere, on the other hand, today is Vernal Equinox.

The length of day and night get almost equal, but they are not exactly the same mainly due to the atmospheric refraction of sunlight and the semi-diameter of the sun's disc. Actually, day is about 14 minutes longer than night.
